Phlebotomist - Laboratory - Adair Clinic
Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the laboratory director. Responsibilities include performing routine collection of blood specimens to perform laboratory tests, specimen preparation, processing and distribution. Answers the laboratory telephone, prepares laboratory files of record, and utilizes fax machine and copier. Serves as receptionist for the laboratory providing service to all categories of patients. Distributes laboratory supplies and helps maintain laboratory supply inventory. Exhibits the values of FIRST (Friendliness, Integrity, Respect, Service and Trust).
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience Required: Previous experience required
Licensing, Certifications and/or Registrations: Phlebotomist certification
Equipment/Special Skills:
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology
• Basic knowledge and use of computer, fax machine and copier
Working Conditions, Hazards
and Physical Effort:
• Works in a laboratory area
• Exposure to infectious materials, cuts and abrasions from equipment
• Involves tasks which are likely to result in contact with blood or body fluids
• Requires sitting, standing and problem solving
• Moderate amounts of time at computer terminal
• Contact with patient, families, visitors, nursing and other hospital personnel
• Works closely with other laboratory departmental personnel
• Also has contact with physicians and hospital Administration
• Works standard workweek with overtime necessary to meet workload and staffing requirements, including weekends and holidays
• Moderate physical exertion with moderate to marked stress levels
• Moderate noise level due to laboratory instrumentation
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs. independently
