Laboratory Services

When you are not feeling well, your physician will want to find out as quickly as possible what is causing your illness. You can depend on our Clinical Laboratory for fast and precise information to assist in diagnosing your illness.

Under the direction of board-certified pathologists, our highly-skilled technicians work in a modern, computerized lab. We provide a full range of services to inpatients and outpatients. Inpatient and emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our hospital laboratory is accredited by The College of American Pathology (CAP). This organization is a group of board-certified pathologists whose goal is to maintain the highest standards in patient care. As a CAP accredited laboratory we are a member of an exclusive group of more than 7,000 laboratories worldwide.

Our other accreditations include CLIA and Joint Commission.

All of our technicians and technologists are accredited by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Within our full-service laboratory are the following departments, with a brief explanation of their varied functions:

Phlebotomy - the collection of blood from the patient;

Processing - the distribution of the specimen for testing;

Hematology - a measurement of red blood cells and blood clotting factors as well as urinalysis;

Chemistry - a test of the serum of blood for different analytes;

Microbiology - the identification of microorganisms that cause disease;

Blood Bank - typing the patient for donated blood from the Central Kentucky Blood Center.
