Physician Assistant
Physician assistants are credentialed to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. They take a patient's medical history, diagnose illnesses, order laboratory tests, treat illnesses and prescribe non-narcotic medications. To receive national certification, a graduate of an accredited program must pass an exam given by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. All physician assistants complete a minimum of 100 hours of continuing education every two years and take a recertification exam every six years.
