An ophthalmologist (Eye MD) specializes in the care of the eye and all its related structures. After completing medical school, an ophthalmologist (Eye MD) serves an internship in general medicine and surgery, then trains an additional three to five years in a residency program for medical and surgical diseases of the eye. An ophthalmologist (Eye MD) provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, using appropriate medical and surgical procedures necessary for treatment. In all situations, the ophthalmologist's (Eye MD) aim is to protect sight and health through early diagnosis and treatment of disease and conditions affecting the eye.
